Our March Meeting

Get With The Count!

The 2010 U. S. Census is underway. At stake are not only how many Congressional seats California receives but also the allocation of over $400 billion annually in federal funding for: Hospitals, Emergency Services, Senior Centers, Schools, Bridges, roads and other infrastructure projects, Job Training Centers and more.

D
uring our March 22nd program, Ms. Amalia Deaztlan, a senior Census specialist with the U.S. Census Bureau, will discuss why the 2010 census is so important and how we can help insure that all Coachella Valley residents are accurately counted. Ms. Deaztlan has a 30 year history of community service in the area and most recently helped run the Perez 2008 primary campaign and was Communications Director for the local Obama general election effort.

The Coachella Valley has grown rapidly since the 2000 census. An accurate count will give our valley more clout in Sacramento which is particularly important for all state funded activities.

All are welcome to attend our March 22nd program at 7pm in the Lakeview Clubhouse. Social time begins at 6:30pm. Please join us for spirited conversation

Our "Toys for Tots" December Meeting

This year, our holiday party featured the collection of toys for donation to the United States Marines' "Toys for Tots" program.  Marine Sergeant Sisso together with Lance Corporals Blackman and Ferow traveled from the Twenty Nine Palms Marine base to receive four large boxes filled with toys.  In addition to the musical entertainment provided by Julio Ortiz, everyone enjoyed the large variety of tasty treats and beverages.

November Meeting Photos

At our well-attended November meeting, Assemblyman Manuel Perez gave a Powerpoint presentation that covered a variety of issues. These ranged from his experiences as a child growing up in the Coachella Valley to his remarkably active role as a freshman member of the California Assembly that included service as chair of a committee working on economic development.  The pictures below were taken during the opening of the meeting.
