Our September Meeting

STAY COOL!

The club's meeting will be on Monday, September 27 in the Lakeview Clubhouse. We wil have coffee and conversation beginning at 6:30 p.m. and the program will start at 7:00.

The meeting will feature Assemblymember Manuel Perez and Palm Springs Mayor, Steve Pougnet, our candidate for the 45th Congressional District. Perez and Pougnet will discuss issues in their election campaigns, answer questions and remind us why it is important that we elect experienced, hardworking local Democrats to the state legislature and U.S. Congress.

While our club was dark during the months of July and August, we closed the season at the end of June with a most enjoyable potluck dinner. The food was great, and the conversation was intense. Below are some pictures of the members having a good time. The first one is of Wendy Silk and Suzan Wilkinson who kept everything running smoothly throughout the evening.

Barbara Boxer Video

During the run-up to the June primary, Senator Boxer recorded a brief video message that still has relevance for her supporters. In just four minutes, the Senator sets out a five step program to get our economy rolling again. Please share this link and encourage your friends and family to watch the video and pledge to support Senator Boxer in the general election. By reaching out to your personal network, you can help mobilize the support we need across the state to win in November.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

We need supporters of Barbara Boxer to step forward and agree to hold small, informal neighbor-to-neighbor events between now and mid-October. Everything you need -- except for the guests -- will be provided. For more information or to volunteer, get in touch with Jess Stoddart at jlstoddart@aol.com or 760-345-0552.

Getting the Word Out

A group that included Jim Bell, Elizabeth Gore, Barbara Goulding, Al & Marilyn Savlowitz, John Mannion, Tom McCutcheon, Linda Wells-Roth, Aiko Backhus, Jim Skerritt, and Larry Kampa joined Colt and Betsy Stewart, to devote two afternoons to signing, addressing, stamping, folding, stuffing and sealing over 1400 letters that were sent to the 2000 registered Democrats in Sun City who are not members of our club. The letters reminded our fellow Dems to cast their votes in this June's election and urged then to consider joining the club. Below are photos of some of the volunteers at work.

2010 Fundraiser Photos

Our annual April fundraiser was well attended and raised over $1000 that will be used for political action. In addition to resident members and guests, the gathering was attended by Justin Blake, candidate for the 37th state Senate district, Raquel Marquez, candidate for the Riverside County Superior Court Judge, and Palm Springs Mayor, Steve Pougnet, candidate for the 45th Congressional district.
