Our May Meeting

At this month's meeting, Karolee Sowel, Chief Executive Officer of the Desert Regional Medical Center, will discuss "The Changing World of Health Care." A winner of numerous professional awards, Ms. Sowel has demonstrated a strong commitment to quality patient care, engagement with the community, and strong fiscal management. She is exceptionally well qualified to give us an informed perspective on where health care is headed in the United States.

Ms. Sowle joined the Medical Center in 1997 and served as Chief Nursing Officer and Chief Operating Officer before taking over the top job. Prior to coming to California she served in Veterans Hospitals and Medical Centers in Wisconsin for over 10 years. Ms. Sowle received her Masters Degree in Business Administration as well as a Masters of Science in Nursing from the University of Wisconsin. She is a Fellow of the American College of Health Care Executives and is Board Certified in both Healthcare Management and Nursing Administration.

All are welcome, so please join us on Monday night, May 21 in the Lake View Clubhouse. There’ll be coffee and conversation at 6:30 pm. and the program will begin at 7:00

Photos of the 2012 Fundraiser

More than 200 members and guests attended this year's event at the Sunset View Clubhouse where they enjoyed a a bounty of food and beverages. They heard Dr. Raul Ruiz, our candidate for Congress, give a rousing presentation of his plans for winning the election. Taken together, the funds raised by the silent auction, book sale and opportunity chances made possible the presentation of a check for more than $2000 to Dr. Ruiz.

House Party Photos

David and Dennie Marks hosted our first house party in support of Dr. Raul Ruiz. A number of friends and neighbors attended and were treated to an informative and energizing presentation by Dr. Ruiz.

Our second house party, Hosted by Aiko Backhus and Linda Wells-Roth, was attended by more than thirty people. A great success that yielded many donations for the Ruiz campaign.

Another great success with the party held at Barbara Dobbins' home. Most guests had not yet heard Dr. Ruiz speak but went away full of enthusiasm; donating funds and volunteering time to help the campaign.

There was a wonderful turnout for the party hosted by Connie and Dave Bannon, Syril Fallick and Maxine Ziebarth at the home of Jess Stoddart and Phil Flemion. Thanks to the efforts of the hosts, the event attracted an audience of eighty people -- many of whom are non-residents. As always, Dr.Ruiz gave a highly stimulating presentation which generated more than $1600 in campaign donations.

Photos of our March Meeting

The March meeting featured Mr. Jeff Chin, Associate Director of the California Innocence Project. Mr. Chin provided a detailed overview of the Project's activities including its procedures for selecting cases, examining evidence, and securing review hearings in court. The program is housed at the California Western School of Law and reviews over 100 cases per year.
